[star icon] Wonderful Smith Island Cakes!

[star icon] My neighbor was visiting Smith Island this past week and was kind enough to bring us a Smith Island Cake to add to our 4th of July Picnic. It was delicious and was the hit of the party! We could hardly wait to eat dinner to try it. (Some suggested we eat it first but I wouldn't let them.) Thanks so much for a wonderful Maryland tradition! Barbara Fromer, New Market, MD

[star icon]Congratulations on having your Smith Island ten-layer cake finally recognized by the rest of the state for the truly wonderful feat of baking skill that it is.

I have spent some terrific times on Smith Island and between the evenings at the Tylerton Women's Crab Coop listening to some wonderful harmonizing and lunches at Rukes, topped off with a wonderful slice (or two) of your now world famous cake, I can think of almost nowhere in Maryland that I would rather be.

After my last visit to the island, my youngest daughter and I tried our hand at making the cake and while it did not come even close to the one on the island, it was close enough to bring back some very fond memories.

Hope to get back again this Summer. Gene from Maryland
